King Charles’ first state visit was about more than just ‘toasts and tiaras’ and showed he has now been accepted as the new monarch, a royal expert said.
The monarch also mentioned the sometimes troubled past relationship between the two nations that “provoke profound sorrow”, but said “we must acknowledge the wrongs which have shaped our past if we are to unlock the power of our common future”. Miss Nicholl added that state visits would now feel very “different” without the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September.
