The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is using the event to hold a recruitment drive
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is using the Harbour Square event to hold a recruitment drive for on-call firefighters throughout the Stewartry, with vacancies in Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse, Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie needing to be filled.
People will have the chance to find out more and speak to Kirkcudbright firefighters and their recruitment team to learn more about the role and see if it appeals. Volunteers are also wanted for the RNLI at Kirkcudbright and Kippford, with various roles available including boat crew, shore based crew who assist with launching and fundraisers.
There’s also the option to join Galloway Mountain Rescue Team, Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes or the ambulance service’s community responders?This year’s event features a number of demonstrations, including a firefighting simulation, casualty rescues by both the RNLI and mountain rescue and a search dog team display.
The day has attractions for the whole family with children’s rides, food stalls, classic vehicles and machinery displays and lots more, with entry free.
