The Spanish side are set to run out at Parkhead in a retro strip that matches the kit worn by the 1974 side that downed the Hoops in the heated European Cup semi-final.
Atletico Madrid captain Koke defended the club’s “great gesture” in using their return to Parkhead to pay tribute to the side that beat Celtic in controversial circumstances in 1974.
READ MORE: Brendan Rodgers admits Celtic need positive Champions League result against Atletico Madrid When asked about the controversy the choice of strip had sparked, Koke said: “It’s an important thing for the club, but that was 50 years ago, so while it is good to have those people with us and memories are a big part of football, it is a completely different game now.
“But it’s a great gesture from the club and it’s an important part of the club’s history, what happened 50 years ago.”
