Lafferty was withdrawn after a video circulated online appearing to show the striker using sectarian language
Ian Baraclough insists Kyle Lafferty still has a future with Northern Ireland despite being axed from the squad.
"I'm here to support my players. I've always looked at the manager's role as having many facets to it and that includes being a father figure, someone they can turn to and talk to and that relationship will still be there. The association's statement also referenced a back injury Lafferty was struggling with in the lead-up to Saturday's game against Kosovo.Questions about the statement were shut down during an often tetchy press conference on Friday.
“The concentration has been there all week. There’s a focus and an energy. It’s clearly different to how it was in June and we can’t wait for it to start.” Meanwhile, Baraclough says he hopes the controversy doesn't undermine the cross-community work the Irish FA continues to carry out. The video, which has appeared on social media, shows Lafferty reacting when a man posing for a photograph with him says “Up the Celts”.The IFA's statement earlier in the day read: "Northern Ireland senior men’s team player Kyle Lafferty has been withdrawn from the squad ahead of the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Kosovo and Greece.
