A group of Lanarkshire men have shone the light on the road to recovery from addiction by walking the West Highland Way

Employees and volunteers from a Lanarkshire support project have gone the extra mile to raise awareness of all that’s possible in recovery from addiction.

Conquering the West Highland Way, which includes stretches of challenging hill-walking, was a feather in the cap of the project, which was launched in 2020 to empower people in recovery and make recovery visible. As well as its five cafes, the group organises recovery walks around Strathclyde Park, street soccer sessions, yoga and other activities. And, says Kerryanne, it’s proof that people do recover.

“The West Highland Way trek showed there is more to life than sitting in by yourself with addiction. If life is not going the way you want it to be going, here is a way out for you.” They’re encouraged by North Lanarkshire Recovery Community to avoid mixing with their usual crowd and find a new way of living through focusing on training, volunteering and peer support.
