Lancaster Independents Weekend to give free goodie bag with a guide around the city's shops
Lancaster city centre is home to an impressive range of independent shops. Whether you're after boutique clothing, antiques, stationary or even some food, Lancaster provides all of it, totally local.
The idea was formed by Jess Tubman, the owner of Penny Street Collectables, and made real with the help of Totally Local Lancaster. Its a weekend set to celebrate Lancaster's "special" city centre, Jess said.Penny Street Collectables will celebrate its fifth anniversary this year. Jess, 47, first made Independents Day tote bags for the shop last year, but decided to expand the idea to bridge the gap for those wanting to shop local, but not knowing where to go.
"People are trying to support independent, especially since Covid, and a lot of independents here are hidden away. They're not on the main strip. So it can be really difficult giving people directions. Penny Street Collectables, on Penny Street, sells a wide range of antiques and vintage collectables. Jess says her stock consists of a nice mix of contemporary and vintages items, often providing "unique" pieces made for keeping.
