Lancashire dad Simon Lingard killed fighting Russia in Ukraine to be 'given send off he deserves' as funeral details announced

The family of a Great Harwood man who died while fighting in Ukraine has thanked the public for their support and announced his funeral details.

Simon Lingard “died fighting for what he believed in” on the Ukraine frontline against Russia's war of aggression on the sovereign nation. The funeral of the 38-year-old will take place at St Bartholomews Church, Great Harwood, at 1pm on Friday . Mr Lingard's family said the Ukrainian military has offered to bring him home to England. But the family have also set up a fundraising page asking for support to give him “the greatest well-deserved send-off”.Simon’s ex-wife Stacey Longworth said: “I just want to let everyone know how grateful me and the children are for all the donations and being able to give Simon the send off he deserves.“Simon served as a paratrooper for many years and we are so proud of him and all he achieved.

At the time a Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who has lost his life in Ukraine and we are in touch with the local authorities in connection with his death. Our thoughts are with their family at this difficult time.”
