Legendary Preston chippy's new owners defend price hikes causing outrage - and vow to keep the Umberto name great

Legendary Preston chippy Umberto's Fish Bar has been back open for a single week and has already managed to stir up a lot of talk on social media.

The dad-of-two who also owns the Moorbrook Inn on North Road, noticed the for sale signs slapped on the front of the store and knew straight away he wanted to carry on the legacy. Beforehand, he knew what it was like to be hit by Covid-19 after losing two of his pubs during that pandemic. However, while many loyal customers were excited to see someone retain the business, others were more concerned about the changes in store. "I've lived in Preston, since I was five years old so nearly 35 years living in Preston growing up just down the road," he added.

Amongst the many comments left under the chip shops Facebook posts were references to the price of the food. Chip shops are primarily know for being a cheap option but over the years, many have progressively grown more expensive.
