Similar funding has previously been given to the Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital
Around £1.2million worth of upgrades will be made to a Nottinghamshire leisure centre to try and reduce its energy bills. The money has been provided by the Government as part of efforts to reduce the carbon emissions of public buildings across the country including hospitals and universities.
The funding will be provided to Rushcliffe Borough Council and will be used to upgrade the Cotgrave Leisure Centre. Solar panels and heat pumps are among the low carbon technologies that could be installed there. Similar funding has previously been given to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where £71m was provided to upgrade its windows. The Government scheme has promised £400m in total across the country for energy efficiency upgrades, with Nottingham City Hospital having also been granted £25m to replace its coal and oil-fired boilers.Rushcliffe's Conservative MP, Ruth Edwards, said: "Leisure centres are much loved community facilities.
Rushcliffe Borough Councils deputy chief executive, Dave Banks, ádded: "We're very pleased Cotgrave Leisure Centre will receive this investment that will continue its decarbonisation journey as a leisure facility as part of the wider centre's redevelopment. It's part of our... goal to make our venues and operations carbon neutral by 2030, complementing our continual investment into our leisure and recreation opportunities.
