'For Kourtney, she probably thought that what she had with Scott was 'love' for many years, until she met Travis.'
And there is no shame in changing your definition of love, or your idea of what a relationship should look like. When you’re in love, it’s easy to convince yourself that whatever you have with that person is how a relationship should be. For me, it was the romanticised idea that all our struggles as a couple were somehow a sign that we were meant to be. “Whatever happens we always come back to each other,” I would tell friends during our numerous Ross-and-Rachel-style breaks.
“Often, we need to experience relationships that don’t work for us to understand what our actual needs and desires are. Our romantic relationships are really vehicles for us to come into greater alignment with who we really are, to help us grow and to heal old wounds and patterns from childhood. We may spend years trying to make it work with someone because we love them, but ultimately we discover the relationship is not aligned with our true needs, values and desires.” Dr Tari explained.
