An experienced hair stylist is helping people transitioning gender to feel comfortable in their bodies by learning about their new hairstyles .
She says clients can feel scared to fully open up to their hairdresser about the style they want due to the pressure of coming out as transgender. The first aspect of this project is designed around helping people going through gender transition, helping people learn the new ways their hair will function, how to use new equipment and how to find the styles that suit them.
“Some of my clients have come in for months wanting new styles each time, but it’s taken them a while to open up about the styles and the reason they want them is because they’re transitioning.“After speaking with those individual clients, it became apparent to me that the help just isn’t out there. “I can’t begin to imagine what people may be feeling when they aren’t comfortable in their own body and I certainly don’t want to patronise anyone going through the thought process of transitioning and acting on it, but my message would be simply that you are loved and you are valued.
