A study from the CanalRiverTrust revealed the country’s canals contain so much rubbish that passers by are more likely to see litter than wildlife 🔴 So they are launching a major recruitment drive for 2,0000 new volunteers help clear rubbish

for 2,0000 new volunteers help clear away rubbish and maintain the 2,500-mile canal network it manages in England and Wales.

“Anecdotally, the litter problem is not getting any smaller. For every bit that we clear, there’s more coming in. The moment you clear it, you go back a week later and it’s there again. So we’re fighting a losing battle. Not only is the litter an eyesore for people wanting to experience the benefits of nature but, more damagingly, it is harmful for wildlife as well.

“To protect nature in our towns and cities and to prevent plastics being washed out into the oceans, we need the help of the millions of people living near to one of our waterways.”
