It follows a collision between junctions 22 and 23. The vehicles involved have since been moved onto the hard shoulder, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.
Motorists are warned to expect delays of 25 minutes. It comes as the area has been hit with wet weather this afternoon, with images from the National Highways camera obscured by rain.An update from Inrix said: "Queueing traffic for seven miles due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M62 Westbound from J23 A640 New Hey Road to J22 A672 . Congestion to after J24 .Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
