The World Museum planetarium is the longest surviving planetarium in a British museum
Aspiring astronomers look to the skies from the Liverpool Planetarium - the crowning glory of the World Museum, now famed as one of the oldest of its kind in the world.
In September 1993, the space and time gallery was opened outside the planetarium by Dr Stephen Hawking. The next big change came in 2012, when new digital projectors were donated, allowing museum staff to present higher-quality shows without the time-consuming task of changing filters, slides and calibrations.
Doors open at the museum at 5.30pm on November 9, with telescope stations for guests to view the night sky. The event will include talks on several subjects including the Milky Way, asteroids and comets, the space race to the moon, high energy particles, and the Sun.
