OBR says it could have produced mini-Budget forecast but wasn't asked to by Kwasi Kwarteng
Liz Truss spoke on local radio stations on Thursday morning in her first public remarks since the market turmoil began Prime Minister Liz Truss and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng are holding emergency talks with the Office for Budget Responsibility on Friday amid the ongoing market chaos.
Ms Truss and Mr Kwarteng will meet with Richard Hughes, the head of the independent spending watchdog, to discuss the economic fallout from Friday’s mini-budget.which included £45bn of tax cuts, sent markets into turmoil, with the pound slumping to a record low against the dollar and the Bank of England forced to unleash a £65bn bond-buying programme as it warned of a “material risk to UK financial stability”.
