Doctors grappling with long COVID face significant career setbacks and inadequate workplace protection, according to a recent BMJ study. Co-founded by a doctor who contracted long COVID, advocacy group Long COVID Doctors for Action pushes for better support and recognition of the condition as an occupational disease.

Image Credit: p.ill.i / Shutterstock The British Medical Association collaborated with LCD4A to study the impact of long COVID in the medical profession. Over 600 doctors were surveyed from December 2022 to January 2023. Survey results indicated that 18% of respondents could no longer work. Although 57% were full-time workers before illness onset, only one in three continued; 49% lost income due to long COVID. The survey also highlighted that most doctors lacked protection in their workplaces.
