Loophole in Russian oil ban means UK motorists could be filling Putin's coffers 🚗 Russian diesel pouring into Europe in record quantities could end up in the tanks of British motorists 🔴 Exclusive cahalmilmo

Refinitiv, a shipping data company, said the figure represented a 31 per cent increase on October and was a sign of buyers “snapping up” diesel barrels before 5 February to ensure sufficient stocks for winter. According to another industry measure, month-on-month orders of Russian diesel rose by more than 90 per cent in November and are likely to remain at the same level at least for December.

Prior to the war, Britain was receiving refined oil products worth £4.5bn a year from ports such as Antwerp and Rotterdam, the vast majority of it understood to be diesel and fuel oil used to power generators or industrial boilers. Figures produced by Vortexa, another London-based shipping data company, showed that diesel imports from Belgian ports to Britain dramatically increased in June to 90,000bpd at the same time as direct Russian imports to the UK began to fall.
