Love Island favourite Kai rejected just days before getting ITV call to join show
Love Island star Kai Fagan has fast become one of the most popular boys in the villa since the show kicked off last week – and his best pal Luke isn’t surprised.
“Kai was seeing a really lovely girl that he really liked last summer,” 24-year-old barber Luke explains. “They’d been almost-together for around six months, seeing each other day in and day out and he took her on a weekend away in August. He was really into her. “The day after his ‘thing’ ended with this girl, he thought, ‘Sack it, why not?’ and did it [applied],” Luke – who has known Kai since the pair met in sixth form – says. “The next morning, an ITV recruiter called him and told him they wanted him. That’s how it all kicked off. It was perfect timing for him.”
And student Tanya Manhenga, 22, has notched up an impressive four snogs with Kai across three challenges during the opening week. “Even when he’s just seeing someone casually, he wouldn’t bat an eyelid at another girl,” Luke says. “He’s definitely a relationship person – he’s been in love twice. His longest relationship was around two years while he was at university, so he’d be buzzing to leave the villa with a girlfriend.
