A Prison Officers Association leader said Letby would be kept in a single cell to shield her from assault by other inmates
While she may currently be on a prison hospital wing or segregation unit that was unlikely to last more than a few days, Mr Primblett said, with prison authorities planning to move her among the general population.
Although Letby may need extra protection when leaving her cell, currently in the future she would be dealt with “the same as any prisoner who is in for shoplifting”, he added.Following her conviction for murdering six babies and attempting to murder six others. it’s likely she would be under constant observation as part of suicide watch.“During the night it may be considered that she’s more of a risk so she may be under constant observation during the night and every 15 minutes during the day”.
Asked what constant surveillance meant, he said: “She would be in a cell and it would have a perspex door and you would have a prison officer stay outside the cell constantly watching her.” But given her crimes he doesn’t believe Letby would ever be transferred to a prison with a mother-baby unit. “I think all prisoners convicted of sexual offences or crimes against children are vulnerable to attack at all times,” he added.
