We've got live updates this morning from the Lytham Festival licensing meeting as council bosses are set to decide whether to increase the event's capacity to 30,000
Councillors from Fylde's licensing panel will today decide on whether to allow a significant increase to crowd size at the Lytham Festival.
A new application submitted in time for this year's festival could see the capacity for each gig boost from just under 20,000 to almost 30,000 - a 50% increase. This year's festival will take place June 28-July 2 and will include performances on Lytham Green by acts including George Ezra, Sting and Lionel Richie.
Addressing the issue earlier this year, organisers Cuffe and Taylor said they plan to host 24,500 for select events this year and would make this possible by removing the VIP lounge marquees. The plan has divided residents who submitted 140 comments to the licensing consultation with an almost exactly 50/50 split amongst those supporting or opposing the plan.
Among roughly 70 supporting letters, neighbours praised the inclusive and family friendly nature of the event and praised Cuffe and Taylor for regularly running a well-organised and problem free event. But those opposing raised concerns over parking and traffic fears and historical problems including people vomiting and urinating against homes.
Three councillors from the licensing panel will today hear both sides of the argument before deciding whether or not to allow the new licence. Follow below for updates from the hearing taking place at United Reformed Church in Lytham St Annes.
