In a tweet at 11.30am on Tuesday , National Highways; East Midlands said: "Traffic is currently stopped on the M1 in Derbyshire southbound between J29 and J28 due to a verge fire.
"The fire service and traffic officers are in attendance. More information to follow shortly." Pictures fromshow traffic at a standstill and tailing back on the motorway. Junction 29A, for Chesterfield and Bolsover, is also heavily congested.Read next:
