354 drivers were pulled over in a week
A driver driving a 44-tonne lorry while high on cocaine was just one of the drivers caught during a week of police action.
During #OpVertebrae, an HGV carrying 11 tonnes more than illegally allowed and a tipper truck carrying a pile of cement too heavy were also stopped. Lancashire Constabulary spend a day focusing on traffic entering and leaving the port at Heysham, while four days were spent at a checksite at Cuerden, where the M65, M61 and M6 meet.During the week-long operation, 354 vehicles were taken to check sites and of those, 204 issued with fixed penalty notices or prohibition orders by Lancashire Police.
Ch Insp Matt Willmot, of Lancashire Police’s TacOps team, said: “You may have seen us out and about, carrying out a week of surge activity to tackle commercial vehicle crime.
