The M65 was closed for just over two hours

The motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 10 and 12 from just after 9pm last night until 11.24pm. The closure took place to assist police in their search for the driver, who fled from his vehicle, following the pursuit.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Constabulary said: "After a pursuit of a car on the M65, the motorway was shut between junctions 10 and 12 to help with the search and arrest of the driver after he fled the vehicle.Last night, traffic was forced to redirect after the closures caused miles of delays. At the time, Highways England stated traffic was being diverted via local routes. Motorists were advised to either postpone or re-route their journeys due to the amount of disruption caused.
