The government has confirmed plans to standardise bin collections across England
Major changes to recycling and food waste bin collections are coming to all homes across England due to new government rules.
The DCN also said some councils won’t be able to get the right equipment in place for the 2026 deadline, with many unable to afford the cost of new bins, vehicle fleets or in some cases larger depots. Ms Coffey said: “Simpler recycling will help us all recycle more easily, doing our bit to help save the planet and make the best use of precious resources that we use every day.
In addition, the government is also considering expanding these rules to cover places of worship, prisons, charity shops and residential hostels. In England, current recycling rates are just over 44% and have remained around this figure for the last 10 years.
