Britain had already experienced its hottest day on record earlier on Tuesday, when Charlwood, Surrey, recorded 39.1C - breaking the previous highest temperature from 2019. Temperatures could get as high as 42C in some areas making the UK the hottest spot in Europe today, after a high of 38.1C on Monday.
