The incident, which police say happened in The Square area of Kilkeel, is believed to have taken place at around 12.25am on July 13.
It was reported that a man in his 30s was assaulted and attended hospital for treatment to "serious head injuries".A PSNI spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact Police on 101 and quote reference number 352 of 14/07/23. "Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/."
