Maguire - no longer captain after Ten Hag opted to strip away the armband and hand it to Bruno Fernandes - rejected a transfer to West Ham despite the two clubs reaching an agreement in principle. That deal would have been worth around £30million to United had it gone through and the Hammers moved on to other targets.
A goalkeeper, a midfielder and a striker were Erik ten Hag's priorities heading into the summer window, but injuries early on in the season mean United are in need of further reinforcements.
