A man has been jailed for killing a passenger hours after he bragging about being able to take his drink.
Daniel Crawshaw, 29, went on a seven-hour drinking session in Holmfirth and Huddersfield on March 7, 2020. During the night out he showed people his car keys and said to them ‘five and drive’ – believed to be a boast that he was capable of driving. After knocking back 10 drinks he decided to drive home with Keegan Edgell, 20, and Thomas Boothroyd, 28, his car.
Leeds Crown Court heard how Crawshaw boasted to witnesses ‘five and drive’ before showing them his car keys during a night out in Holmfirth and Huddersfield.A witness who spoke to Crawshaw moments after the collision said that he did not mention his critically ill passengers and when police turned up he appeared drunk while speaking to a relative on his mobile.Yesterday, he was jailed for over eight years at Leeds Crown Court and won’t be able to drive for two years after he is released.
