It will cover prisons, nuclear bunkers, war memorials, execution sites, cemeteries and crypts
A man has written a "dark tourism" guidebook with Northamptonshire sites like the Rothwell Bone Crypt featuring. Leon McAnally, 27, from Kingsthorpe, believes certain historical attractions are "overlooked" despite being part of our "dark heritage".
"It was then while studying further travel and tourism at the University of Northampton that I focused much of my work around dark tourism, learning about the issues of dark tourism and why tourists were motivated to visit such places."Since graduating, I have focused on travelling to many dark tourism sites across Europe like the Sedlec Ossuary in the Czech Republic alongside places in Britain such as the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool and Littledean Jail.
Northamptonshire sites featured in the book include the Rothwell Bone Crypt and the grave of Princess Diana. It is Leon's belief this guidebook will be the first of its kind in Britain, bringing to light over 280 attractions.
