Andy Burnham: Victims of Manchester Arena attack 'badly let down'
Mr Burham goes on to say that as the report made clear the reason people were left in"this unacceptable position" was the result of"poor advance planning and a failure to follow established guidance".Watch: Victim John Atkinson's family statementFamily lawyer Kim Harrison read the statement which said the 28-year-old healthcare worker was"failed at every stage" - by both by the private medical providers at the arena – ETUK and the emergency services.
She said:"Significant errors were made in the hours leading up to the attack and in the immediate aftermath. Statements from Greater Manchester Police, British Transport Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service and North West Ambulance Service will be made. "Poor communications, poor planning, inadequate training and shortcomings in strategic leadership all played a part in our failure."
"We must ensure that the emergency services introduce measures befitting of today's recommendations to ensure that more lives are saved should another such attack happen again in the future". In their statement, the family say the medical tourniquets Mr Atkinson needed were not made available and the paramedics who could have saved him"should have been at the scene much sooner".
