Manchester United suffered a comfortable defeat against Manchester City in the first derby of the season. Erling Haaland scored twice and Phil Foden added another goal as City secured a well-deserved victory. United's questionable lineup and injuries contributed to their poor performance.
Manchester United 's winning run came to an end as they were comfortably beaten by Manchester City in the first derby of the season at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The last time City had a penalty at Old Trafford, the majority of the players on the pitch for Sunday's derby hadn't even been born. Erling Haaland made no mistake from 12-yards out, and as painful as it might be, the referee didn't make one either with his award of it. Not one of the back four would be a selection in United's best XI, and that became painfully obvious right from the start of the match that this was very much a second-string set-up.
Rasmus Hojlund showed faint glimpses again on Sunday afternoon, but once again finished the match without a goal contribution and having squandered the few chances that fell his way. The boos were just about justifiable this time given the lack of ambition they signalled, though they will start falling on deaf ears until he proves he deserves to stay on.United headed into the Manchester derby on the back of three successive wins, though that wasn't a reflection that they had actually turned a corner in the process.
