The Sinn Fein leader said it forced her to accept that she wasn’t “superhuman”
Mary Lou McDonald has bravely opened up about getting her womb and ovaries removed earlier this year.
The TD also revealed it forced her to accept that she wasn’t “superhuman” and that she was in another “stage” of her life, the Irish Mirror reports.The 54-year-old said: “On the 24th of June, I had a hysterectomy so I lost my womb, my ovaries. So you know it was fairly significant surgery. She continued: “I had the surgery, the growths, the tumors were removed and I didn’t require any further treatments or therapies … it was a serious surgery.The party boss also praised the staff at the Rotunda Hospital where she underwent the procedure and said their care was “outstanding”.
“Everything from menstruation, menopause. We need to be able to have these conversations and men need to part and boys need to be part of the conversation.”
