Tourists have seen videos of their stolen bikes posted to TikTok by a gang who performs tricks on the vehicles.
A masked gang is stealing motorcycles and taunting the devastated owners by posting videos on social media of themselves pulling stunts on the vehicles.
Several tourists have seen their bikes in TikTok footage shortly after they were stolen. One victim said his bike was nicked and that, hours later, he later saw it being ridden by a youngster wearing a balaclava. A victim from the Merchiston area of the city had his silver motorcycle cut free from its chain. Just hours later he was told it featured in a video on social media being rode by a masked youth alongside several other bikes.
A video from the same account shows what appears to be both bikes being ridden around by the same group. Bianca Bittmann, who was also travelling with the pals, said: "We planned this trip to tour around Scotland for over a year and invested a lot of money. A Portobello resident had his prize possession stolen from his driveway during the night - with CCTV footage capturing the terrifying ordeal.
"It is really frightening. It is a total invasion of privacy. It was a warm night too, so we were sleeping with the windows open. You don't know if they would come into the house." "Elsewhere in Europe, you can leave your bike without a lock on it and trust that it'll be fine, but not here. No chain is going to keep these people out. They have battery powered grinders that can cut through anything."
