🔴 Aid workers are running out of body bags as they are forced to build mass graves following a devastating earthquake that has killed thousands of people in Turkey and Syria
Salah Abulgasem, an aid worker with Islamic Relief who flew out to Turkey following the deadly quake, said that the level of devastation he was witnessing was “unbelievable”.. “I struggle to comprehend, but I’m seeing images from my colleagues of mass graves.“The amount of bodies that they’re recovering, there isn’t enough space in order to bury them so they’re burying families as complete families.
More than four in five Syrians are now living in poverty, with the price of basic commodities soaring over recent years. “We’re always optimistic, we’re always trying to do our best and look at means and ways to help people, but… a near impossible situation is only going to made worse,” Mr Abulgasem said.
“We just hope that the global community puts its lens again on the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, but also here in Turkey as well, and provides assistance and support not just now but in the weeks and months to come when people are trying to piece their lives back together.”
