. Not only had Hancock been received with open arms by his fellow campmates and, annoyingly, taken on each Bushtucker Trial with gusto, his reputation – non-existent when he entered the show three weeks ago – has been somewhat redeemed.
And there’s the rub. In the past three weeks, Hancock has come across as a great guy. A little awkward, sure, but what buttoned up 44-year-old bloke not used to the glitz and glamour of an ITV1 reality series wouldn’t be? He’s been funny, kind, enthusiastic – almost charming. And we, the public, have fallen right into that trap. “He’s just a normal bloke,” we have started to say, almost forgetting his lockdown rule breaking, and poor decisions that cost lives.
