Authorities in California have issued an update following the death of actor Matthew Perry. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office this weekend began an investigation after the death of the Friends star at the age of 54.

Matthew Perry's body is to be released to his family. Perry’s family said: “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.” They added: “You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.” In a video posted to his Instagram page he said: “Matthew was the first friend I made in Los Angeles when I moved there. I was 21 he was 16. We did a pilot together … we became really good friends and we were really more like brothers for a long time.
