Traditionally, the month of May has two bank holidays, at the start and end of the month.
“A spring bank holiday would be a welcome and valuable boost to the industry, kick-starting the season and providing tourism destinations with much needed-cash flow after the lean winter months. The agency’s ‘Bank Holiday Trip Tracker’ issued for the Platinum Jubilee revealed in May this year that 5.3 million Britons planned an overnight holiday break in the UK during the extended bank holiday weekend for the Platinum Jubilee, bringing an estimated £1.2 billion boost to the economy.In the UK, the holidays are created under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 or by royal proclamation – the monarch acting on government advice.
