At the age of 21 John Brodie started working with his father Samuel Brodie, who owned Rossendale Exhaust Centre in Rawtenstall
A motor mechanic is closing the doors of his business in time for his retirement after more than 40 years of hard work.
He said: “It has been good working here. Covid was difficult but we have lots of regular customers and their parents came before them too. It is a strange feeling to close but it is inevitable. I have sold the property but I do not know its future.” John qualified as a motor mechanic when he was 20-years-old after completing his City and Guilds qualifications at Blackburn College and Accrington College. He did his apprenticeship at Walkersteel in Blackburn and worked at Wilfred Holden Transport in Darwen where he became the foreman mechanic.
The garage offers a range of services including exhaust system repairs, fit replacement tyres and MOT testing. Rossendale Exhaust Centre used to be Union Garage petrol station and the vehicle repair garage has been running for more than 50 years.
