Five meerkats are expected to move into their new enclosure at the Edinburgh hospital next year.
A group of meerkats will move into a children's hospital to give patients the chance to connect with nature.
But some were too unwell, or had been in hospital so long, they did not have the opportunity to get outdoors or interact with animals. The welfare needs of the animals, such as feeding and veterinary care, will be overseen by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland .The zoo currently delivers a weekly programme of educational activities at the hospital, which RZSS chief executive David Field called "a great success".
