“I’m just not the kind of person who will slow down. I thrive on a challenge and being busy. It’s how I function best. Sam, from Chorley in Lancashire, has been a single mother for the past 20 years. Her priorities have always been to pay the rent and make memories with her daughter, now 21. Sam will rely on the state pension and will supplement this with work. She may move into politics, and is standing as a Labour candidate in the 2023 council elections.
