The forecaster is predicting sunshine and showers for this weekend - scorching some hopes that temperatures could soar
The Met Office has given its verdict on the last Bank Holiday of the year - and people should probably make sure that if they’re planning a barbecue to have some umbrellas ready. Some reports have been talking of an imminent heatwave, but apart from the middle of this week, temperatures will be just over 20C at the weekend.
Stephen Dixon, Met Office Spokesperson said: “The outlook for the Bank Holiday Weekend for England is a mixture of sunshine and showers for many, with the more frequent showers likely in northern parts of the UK. “By Saturday, low pressure is likely to sink further south from the north, spreading the possibility of showers further south in the UK. These showers are unlikely to persist through the day, though there could be some heavier bursts within this in some areas. By Sunday the set up is for another largely dry day – though some showers remain possible in northern areas, especially over Scotland.”
The Met Office medium term forecast until September 4 says the weather will be mixed with showers and sunshine - but with thundery downpours possible. Southern areas may see some drier spells, northern and western areas have the greatest likelihood of seeing frequent rainfall, which at times may become locally heavy or thundery. Occasional strong winds are possible, especially in the north, and becoming slightly more likely towards the end of the month.
