The Met Office has said that we're set for 10C or colder as a cool flow arrives from the North West
The UK is set for a major drop in temperatures in the coming days as we head into a cold snap. In some parts of the country, temperatures will drop below zero.The sudden plunge in temperatures will see an end to the Indian summer which saw unseasonably warm temperatures sweep the country. Forecasts have predicted heavy rain showers will continue across the north and west and the Scottish hills could see snow.
In an update on Saturday, Met Office meteorologist Alex Deakin warned people to “be prepared for a chill” as conditions will be much colder than earlier in the week. He said: “It isn’t warm. Temperatures are struggling to get into the teens in the south and many places further north are 10C or 11C at best. Add on the strength of the wind across northern Scotland and it really does feel cold. Further south, the wind’s not quite as strong but these temperatures are significantly lower than average and lower than last weekend. If you’re heading out this evening then prepare for temperatures to drop pretty rapidly.
He added: “As the winds start to ease, temperatures will fall even further so it’ll be even colder tomorrow morning, with greater chance of a frost over northern England, northern Ireland and Scotland, Arctic freeze to send temperatures plunging to -4C after heavy rain hits parts of UK, certainly in rural areas.”
“In the sunny spells, temperatures may well get up to 10C, 11C, 12C, maybe 13C. But these numbers are about 10C lower than the same time last week. So things have changed quite a bit. On Sunday, those temperatures will be falling away pretty rapidly.”
