Just as we were all starting to get used to milder temperatures
The Met Office has warned that March could bring snow as colder weather is expected. The forecaster is predicting a mild second half of February for the UK, with cold under clear skies forecast from Monday, February 13 until Friday, February 17 for the East Midlands with an average of 11C for the rest of the week in Nottingham.
Whilst there could be no impact on Britain, this Artic blast was responsible for the horrific snow storms experienced in 2018, known as the Beast from the East. Many long-range forecasts are bringing up the risk of snow showers for the nation in a matter of weeks, with the Met Office's outlook for the next month detailing a clear shift in weather patterns.
However, as the forecast looks into the first weeks of March, it explains a cold period could be on its way. From February 27 to March 13, it says: "The end of February is likely to see a continuation of changeable conditions, with the wettest and windiest weather most probable across the northwest. "Temperatures expected to be mostly around average, but a period of colder or much colder temperatures remains a small possibility and could bring spells of wintry weather." Ian Simpson, a forecaster from NetWeather, said there are signs that sudden stratospheric warming may influence the country's weather into March, but not before.
