Spoiler: It's not looking good
Despite a recent period of snow, ice and frost hopes of snow have been dashed for the big day as weather experts say a very mild, more unsettled pattern is now dominating the UK. In the last few days before Christmas, the week is set to be a mixed picture weather wise with the first half bright, breezy, and dry for many.
In Lancashire, rain has pelted down on the first of the final seven days despite temperatures reaching shocking highs of 14 in areas like Preston. By Sunday, most of the milder temperatures will have settled back down to single figures but the entire day will remain dry and somewhat cloudy.Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Harris, said: “From mid-week we expect to see a north / south split develop with colder weather arriving in the north, while the south hangs onto the mild conditions.
“Uncertainty in the weather forecast details is not unusual at 6-7 days out, and the current weather patterns are heightening those uncertainties. Confidence in the forecast is unlikely to increase until mid-week at the earliest and a range of outcomes are still possible. “However, what we can say is that Christmas Day will most likely be mild with a risk of rain or showers in places for the south, especially the far south, while any cold air and wintry conditions will most likely be confined to the north of the UK.”Preston Christmas day forecastBlackburn Christmas day forecastCloudy conditions for most of the day with low wind speeds of 7mph.
