A weather event responsible for the Beast from the East is 'underway' this month, according to the forecaster.
Whilst February was the warmest on record, a "meaningful" front of wintry weather could make March the coldest month so far this winter. The Met Office reports the phenomenon that caused the Beast from the East - called a A Sudden Stratospheric Warming - is underway.
In a recent forecast reported by the Mirror, Madden said the SSW will invite "more meaningful" cold and snow from March. The forecaster added that March could have "widespread snow" witnessed in "all parts of the country". "However, this particular sudden stratospheric warming is going for it this time around in terms of obliterating the polar vortex and almost every output and scenario reviewed for afterwards, places us in a strong blocking pattern over some sustained periods from late February and in March/early April."
