Metropolitan Police officers accused of sharing sexist, racist and homophobic images in a WhatsApp group “applauded sexual violence against women“, a misconduct hearing has heard
Thomas, who was the highest ranking officer in the WhatsApp group, faces an additional allegation of failing to adequately supervise his team and legitimising the “derisory chat” as team sergeant.Mr Hobbs said the former police sergeant referred to Officer A, a junior female officer who was assigned to their team for a period of time, as “f****** ugly” and “it”.
Mr Hobbs said the officers fostered a “toxic, abhorrent culture” and their actions are serious enough to justify dismissal.The most senior officer involved in the group at the time of the incident, former police sergeant Luke Thomas, has accepted the comments he made were forms of misconduct that accumulatively amounted to gross misconduct.
Price, 43, revealed last week she had been informed that a number of officers had allegedly breached the standards of behaviourA photo shared by Price on Instagram showed the officers are alleged to have been part of “a WhatsApp group chat that has posted inappropriate and discriminatory images of your son, Harvey Price”.
She said: “I feel I need to share this hand-delivered letter from the Metropolitan Police. It’s disgusting that police officers from here have felt the need to laugh and use disgusting content on Harvey by creating a [WhatsApp group].Mr Thomas, Mr Allen and Mr South admit gross misconduct for all allegations.
