Michael Mann fulfills 30 year odyssey into making new Ferrari film, while teasing his desire to make Heat 2.
a case could be made that Mann actually started his pre-production for his Ferrari movie 30 years ago in 1993, when he admits to his first visit to Modena, which is mostly where the film was shot.
By beginning his pre-production three decades ago, in the interim the four-time Academy Award nominee made seven films, including Heat , The Insider , Collateral and Blackhat , dabbled in some television, raised four daughters, and wrote his bestselling novel Heat 2 with Meg Gardiner. During this time Ferrari's personal and professional lives hung in the balance. There are bankruptcy talks surrounding the company he and his wife, Laura , built from nothing 10 years earlier, while their marriage lays on the brink after the revelation of his mistress, as they mourn the death of their only son.
The premise: Mann's Ferrari film, which stars Adam Driver in the title role, is set in 1957 during three pivotal months of his life When attributing Mann to his best work, Heat , starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro always seems to surface first, which Mann has said he has no problem with over the three decades since making it.
