.PrimeVideoUK will premiere a fresh drama series inspired by ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ in 2022.
currently in the works at HBO, but Amazon Prime has gone with a one-prequel-to-rule-them-all approach while rebooting J R R Tolkien’s. First announced back in 2017, the fantasy series will take place during the Second Age of Middle-Earth, thousands of years before Bilbo discovered the Ring and Frodo began his journey to Mount Doom. As with Peter Jackson’s Oscar-winning trilogy, much of the action has been filmed in New Zealand, with the first episode due to premiere on 2 September 2022.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-Earth,” reads Amazon’s synopsis. “From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
Standing in the foreground, moreover, is a character many believe to be Galadriel – played by Cate Blanchett in the Noughties blockbusters. The Welsh actor Morfydd Clark will be stepping into the role for the Amazon series, after quietly impressing critics inSaint Maud
