It has been revealed that three-quarters of English councils with social care duties are planning a 5% hike in council tax from April.

Work and Pension Secretary Mel Stride has said Westminster has put ‘about £60 billion worth of funding for the current year into local authorities’. Around 95% of councils are expected to hike payments by the full 5% permitted over the next five years in order to raise money, according to Treasury analysis in November.
