The Department for Work and Pensions will pay millions of people a Christmas bonus each year. The regularly makes the payment each year and has faced calls to increase the amount but has instead maintained the previous level.
It was first introduced as part of the Pensioners’ and Family Income Supplement Payments Act in 1972 - the payment has received a lot of criticism over the years as it has not been uprated, Stoke on Trent Live reports. In particular, last year, when the UK was facing the biggest cost of living crisis in decades.
If you’re part of a married couple, in a civil partnership or living together as such and you both get one of the qualifying benefits, you will each get a Christmas bonus payment. If your partner or civil partner does not get one of the qualifying benefits, they may still get the Christmas bonus if both of the following apply:
